Amalienburg

in 80638 Munich, Bavaria (DE)

At the beginning of the 19th century, Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell transformed the originally very formal Baroque garden into an English landscape garden.

He created a variety of landscapes with artificial hills and lakes, but retained the canals and the Baroque Large Parterre. Architectural features include the Monopteros built in 1865 and the pavilions such as the Amalienburg, designed by Francois Cuvilliés and built from 1734 to 1739. The little hunting lodge created for Electress Amalia with its unique Hall of Mirrors is a masterpiece of European Rococo architecture.
