Hermitage Old Palace and Court Garden

in 95444 Bayreuth, Bavaria (DE)

Margrave Georg Wilhelm built the Old Palace in 1715 as the central feature of a court hermitage. From 1735 Margravine Wilhelmine converted it into a charming little summer palace with a splendid interior.

Particular highlights are the Japanese Cabinet, the Music Room and the Chinese Mirror Cabinet, in which Wilhelmine wrote her celebrated memoirs.
The front façades of the New Palace are clad with rock crystal and coloured vitrified paste. The sun temple in the middle is crowned with a representation of Apollo with his sun chariot.
